Ask Cleanly

This DBT script helps you ask, or say no, without disappearing and without attacking. You will write one real request and trim it until another person could repeat it back.

Write the facts of the situation in two sentences. Leave out guesses about motives and any name-calling.

Name your feeling in one line, then write the specific ask, including what you want and by when.

Add one sentence about how this helps the relationship or the shared task. Keep it concrete, not a threat.

Write the sentence you will repeat if the talk drifts, and how you will sit or stand so your voice can stay level.

Offer one acceptable alternative you could live with, and one limit you will not trade away. Read the whole script aloud and cut any extra speech.

Free for personal use. Commercial use requires a Paid plan. Republishing is not allowed.
